I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am to be doing the $100 Room Challenge again!
For those of you who don’t know, it’s a challenge where interior designers, home decor bloggers, and DIYers come together to redesign a room/area of their their home over the course of a month for $100.
There are two challenges each year - one in January and one in September. This past January was my first time participating in the challenge and I completed my upstairs bathroom.
The founder of the challenge, Erin over at Lemons, Lavender, and Laundry, has been doing this for 5 years! If you want some inspiration, definitely check out her website for past challenge projects from her and other participants.
Anyway, back to the current challenge. I’ve decided to tackle my coat closet and transform it into a pantry.
And, this, my friends, is why:
Any items that currently do not fit into the cabinets end up here on our buffet. And we will likely get rid of our buffet (you know, that ugly thing hidden behind a tablecloth that I never got around to refinishing because we desperately needed storage) when we build our new deck and replace the wall behind it with french doors.
We have other spaces in our home that we can move the items that are currently in our coat closet:
I can easily whittle down the number of paper bags we've accumulated throughout the first few months of COVID-19 because we were unable to use our reusable bags. I can also move the coats into other closets and the ironing board downstairs into our bathroom/laundry room closet.
As for the recycling that takes up residence in there now and overflows...
The jury's still out on that one. I do know the recycling will NOT be taking up residence in this closet anymore. (At least we recycle, right?) This space will be a pantry and a pantry only!
So, here's my grand vision for the pantry in mood board form:
You might recognize the background pattern if you've been following along with Friar Tuck Design Company for a while. It's the wallpaper I used for my entry way redesign in this year's One Room Challenge. We have enough leftover wallpaper to cover the walls of the pantry, so that, my friends, is FREE!
I also have both the clamp lid jars and the Mason jars for storing different baking essentials and dry goods. So, that's free too!
I've already purchased the Bread Box from Michael's. It's regularly $24.99, but is currently on sale for $14.99. PLUS, I had a $5 reward voucher, so I only paid $9.99! Now, I just need to figure out the floating shelves, the wire baskets for snacks, and the crates on wheels for items like potatoes and onions.
I'm excited for my game plan and can't wait to see how it turns out! I'm also excited to see what my fellow participants come up with!
Until next time...
- Angela :)
